Meet the Team

Callan Welder, LAc MAOM

Callan is a native to Madison County and graduated from Madison High School in 1996. His love for mountains, snow and skiing led him out West to Wyoming and Montana after college. Suffering from two compressed vertebrae in his back from a skiing accident in 2007, he turned to Acupuncture and discovered its healing power.

Callan completed a four year masters degree in Oriental Medicine, including Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, in 2014 from Daoist Traditions College for Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, North Carolina. After graduation, Callan opened Marshall Acupuncture & Herb Clinic in downtown Marshall. Bringing Chinese Medicine to his home town is a dream come true. Callan’s commitment to health and wellness has led to a thriving clinical practice that has helped hundreds of people in the community.

Callan raises his three beautiful children with his wife, Allison on the farm he grew up on. They host work traders year round and hold workshops and retreats in this rich biodiversity of nature and community. He also serves the community as a Qi Gong teacher and Chinese astrologer (Yi Jing consultant) through his teacher, Daoist priest Wu Dang Chen. He also incorporates earth based spiritual practices as an initiate in the Andean Tradition from Peru. He currently continues his Chinese medicine education as a student with Andrew Nugent-Head in Asheville, North Carolina.

Becca Nicholson, L.Ac Dipl. Ac.

Becca grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and moved to Marshall in 2021. She has a background in the arts, music, and languages. She enjoys bringing her artistic sensibilities and creativity to patient care, honoring the uniqueness of each individual and their needs and goals. Becca comes from a family of allopathic medicine practitioners and became interested in Chinese Medicine via her dad—a physiatrist who found acupuncture in his search for better, non-pharmaceutical ways to address chronic pain. She is especially interested in using acupuncture to support emotional balance, pain management, hormone health, and headache disorders such as migraine disease.  Becca utilizes a variety of treatment methods, including cupping, bodywork, electroacupuncture, and nutrition therapy. She loves the beauty, simplicity, and completeness of Chinese Medicine and feels honored and excited to be offering it to her community here in Marshall.

Becca is a nationally certified Diplomate of Acupuncture (NCCAOM), licensed in the state of North Carolina, and received her masters degree from Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in Boone, North Carolina.

Outside of the clinic, Becca sings and writes her own music. She also loves hiking in our beautiful mountains, traveling, knitting, and is an aspirational gardener.

Phillip Kendall, LMT

Phillip is a licensed massage and bodywork therapist who is passionate about helping his clients find relief from chronic stress and injuries as well as the everyday impacts of our modern world.

Phillip’s personal healing journey began after a wake-boarding accident in college that unexpectedly introduced him to the world of alternative medicine, although be it several years later. During that time he became much more aware of the connection between mind, body, emotion, and spirit. It was an awakening in many ways and eventually this lead him to study bodywork and become a massage therapist.

Growing up, Phillip was very active playing sports and immersing himself in the great outdoors. Much of his love for bodywork and massage stems from his interest in cultivating functional strength and flexibility for everyday life and longevity. Phillip loves anatomy and continuing to learn about how amazing our bodies really are. His approach to massage and bodywork integrates his studies and practice in relaxation massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point, cranial sacral therapy, and resistance stretching.

Phillip graduated from the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga in 2017. He’s also a Certified Health Coach, Certified Yoga Instructor, and an Eagle Scout. When he’s not working as a massage therapist he helps steward his family’s small organic farm near Max Patch.
